Landlady’s Adam Schatz has a few irons in a few fires: He’s played saxophone with Vampire Weekend and Man Man, and he runs a jazz festival in NYC. Landlady is his main project, however, and live, then band has an intimate urgency that uncrosses arms and impels involvement, and their sound invokes the Band if they had Dirty Projectors’ skewed sense of song structure.

The keepers at the Bloodshot asylum first noticed Jon Rauhouse playing with the Grievous Angels, playing steel guitar in a rock band. His hunched over demeanor and the madman gleam in his eye told them that they had found a kindred spirit. Since then, Jon has lent his talents to tours and recordings by Neko Case, Sally Timms, Kelly Hogan, Calexico, the Waco Brothers, and Giant Sand.
