SHIYU FANG
A pianist, composer, and arranger, Shiyu Fang is an emerging voice in contemporary jazz whose work bridges sophisticated composition with expressive performance. She earned a Master of Music in Jazz Composition from the Manhattan School of Music in 2026 as a Presidential Scholarship recipient and the recipient of 2025 Mary Jo Papich Women in Jazz Scholarship. She previously graduated from Berklee College of Music with dual bachelor’s degrees in Piano Performance and Jazz Composition, earning recognition including the Berklee World Tour Scholarship, Herb Pomeroy Scholarship, and Toshiko Akiyoshi Award. She was also a member of the Jazz and Gender Justice Institute, founded by Terri Lyne Carrington.
Her compositions have been premiered at Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center and Neidorff-Karpati Hall, selected for recording by the U.S. Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors, and recognized through the Jazz Education Network 2026 Young Composer Showcase. As a performer, she has collaborated with acclaimed artists including Miguel Zenón, Jim McNeely, Joe Locke, and Bijon Watson, and made her headlining debut at Blue Note Beijing with the Blue Note China Jazz Orchestra. She has also performed at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Vermont Solo Piano Jazz Festival, Jazz at Lincoln Center Shanghai, and leading jazz venues across the United States and China. Her artistry reflects a commitment to innovation, collaboration, and the continued evolution of jazz.
