Peter Saxe & Matt Mitchell | Wynton & Wes Smokin at the Half Note
($20-$30 Tickets + DICE fees | 6:30pm & 8:30pm Shows) Chicago pianist Peter Saxe and Tucson guitarist Matt Mitchell join forces for an electrifying tribute to Wynton Kelly and Wes Montgomery’s legendary 1965 album Smokin’ at the Half Note. Captured live at the famed New York club, the original recording stands as one of the greatest examples of telepathic interplay in jazz history. Saxe and Mitchell, both masters of groove and taste, lead a hard-swinging quartet through timeless tunes like “No Blues,” “Four on Six,” and “Unit 7,” channeling the joyful spirit, drive, and deep blues feeling that defined the Wynton–Wes partnership.
The evening is part of our Classic Album” series and is presented with Wooden Tooth Records, which boasts one of the best jazz collections for sale in Downtown Tucson.
