Hotel Congress Art in the Lobby Presents Wallace Book

As part of its ongoing series, Art in the Lobby, Hotel Congress will feature selected works by the local artist, Wallace Book! Both new and old artworks will be on display, exploring a range of themes gathered from the nostalgia and lore of popular culture.

As a multimedia artist and musician, Book was raised near the Navajo reservation throughout northern Arizona. Now residing in Tucson where he has worked for the past 10 years, his body of work is a communal journey that expresses his lifelong love for comic books, TV, film, and music. Ubiquitous in crossovers, Book often integrates separate fictional narratives into one composition, occasionally using the backdrop of various Tucson landmarks. His highly regarded vinyl art is a pastiche of cultural icons painted in black-and-white on top of recycled records. As a member of several local bands, these stand-alone pieces also salute his musical background as well as the city of Tucson.

Book’s work has been exhibited in local businesses such as the Surly Wench, and Che’s Lounge.

The opening reception will be held from 6 pm–8 pm on Friday, June 14, 2019. The exhibition will run through September 4, 2019.
