Michael Weiss Piano Jazz Masterclass
($20 tickets + fees / Free for students | 3pm worksop) The Century Room is presenting a Piano Jazz Workshop on Saturday, April 20, 2024, 3-5 pm, led by guest artist Michael Weiss, and it is open to all instrumentalists (high school students and up – younger with permission). Workshop will focus on jazz harmony, piano voicings, how to swing by yourself, making constructive use of your practice time, what makes a good improvised solo, and ergonomic piano technique.
New York pianist Michael Weiss has established a formidable career working in the bands of jazz legends Johnny Griffin, Art Farmer, Frank Wess, George Coleman, the Jazztet, Charles McPherson and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. Like his longtime colleague Barry Harris, Weiss delights in teaching the language of jazz from the inside out. Detailed biography.
This Century Room Workshop is sponsored by the Tucson Jazz Music Foundation (TJMF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization making jazz music education accessible for Arizona’s youth and the general public.
The workshop is FREE to students ages 25 and under (current valid student ID required).
