—BIKINI TRILL—Bikini Trill is a vibrant surf-pop trio based in Los Angeles, California, celebrated for their unique blend of genres and captivating live performances. Founded in 2017, the band features the talents of vocalist Lauren ‘LJ’ Johnson, guitarist Tony Barker Stern, and bassist Kourosh ‘Roach’ Poursalehi. Their eclectic sound, which skillfully merges electronic, hip-hop drums, skank island guitars, and entrancing vocal melodies, has drawn comparisons to notable acts like Santigold, Sublime, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

In the spring of 2017, Bikini Trill made their live performance debut at the famed SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. They quickly gained momentum, embarking on their first nationwide tour in the fall of 2018, opening for New Politics and The Score. This was promptly followed by another nationwide tour in support of Reel Big Fish.

2019 marked a significant year for the band as they collaborated with Jared Watson of ‘Dirty Heads’ on their single, ‘Lost Boy’. The song premiered on 96.5FM The Buzz and gained further recognition by making it onto Spotify’s Fresh Picks Playlist. That same year, Bikini Trill embarked on their first nationwide amphitheater tour alongside 311, The Dirty Heads, Interrupters, and Dreamers. Their captivating performances at renowned venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheater, Austin 360 Amphitheater, and Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion were met with sold-out crowds.

In addition to their impressive touring record, Bikini Trill has also graced the stages of various esteemed music festivals. Their festival performances include Wonderfront Festival, One Love, Cali Vibes Fest, Bay Fest, Reggae Rise Up Maryland & Las Vegas, Everwild, and Summer Roots Fest.

Presently, Bikini Trill is basking in the success of their latest EP release, “Hello, Welcome!” They are also preparing for a series of summer shows on the East Coast, supporting Dirty Heads, Lupe Fiasco, and Yelawolf. Their recent single, “What’s The Rush?!” has received notable recognition, earning a spot on KROQ 106.7’s Top 15 of 2022.

—KISHI BASHI—The latest full-length from Kishi Bashi, Kantos is a work of exquisite duality: a party album about the possible end of humanity as we know it, at turns deeply unsettling and sublimely joyful. In a sonic departure from the symphonic folk of his critically lauded 2019 LP Omoiyari—a career-defining body of work born from his intensive meditation on the mass incarceration of Japanese-Americans during World War II—the Seattle-born singer/songwriter/producer’s fifth studio album encompasses everything from Brazilian jazz and ’70s funk to orchestral rock and city pop (a Japanese genre that peaked in the mid-’80s). Informed by an equally kaleidoscopic mix of inspirations—the cult-classic sci-fi novel series Hyperion Cantos, the writings of 18th century enlightenment philosopher Immanuel Kant, a revelatory trip to ancient ruins on the island of Crete—Kantos ultimately serves as an unbridled exaltation of the human spirit and all its wild complexities.

–LAURA JEAN BAND– The Laura Jean Band (formerly Laura and the Killed Men) steep their songs in the lore of the American West, refracting its triumphs and tragedies through an intimate lens. Laura Kepner-Adney, the lead singer and guitarist in the Tucson-based band, shades her unique voice with echoes of country and Appalachia. Her expansive songwriting, honed from years of playing in Tucson and touring across the country, highlights her connection to Arizona’s unforgiving environment and her own ancestral past. For the band’s first LP, Everchanging Trail, Kepner-Adney, in collaboration with songwriting partner and former lead guitarist Sam Golden, developed a style that weaves together all the diverse and disparate elements of what has defined country music throughout the 20th and 21st centuries and forges something timelessly familiar yet wholly unique. Bob Hanshaw on bass, and Seth Vietti, drums, supply soaring vocal harmonies and a tightly refined backbeat. After making their debut opening for Mavis Staples, Laura and the Killed Men recorded the One Bell hybrid CD/analog record and embarked on a nine-week national tour. Their first full-length album, Everchanging Trail (released April 2016), showcases songs they wrote on their 12,000-mile journey around the country. Their new lineup has shifted and still includes Hanshaw; Julius Schlosburg plays drums (and sings when there’s a mic available), and Clay Koweek contributes pedal steel and lead guitar.

STRAWBERRY GIRLS

Progressive instrumental quartet Strawberry Girls began in 2011 as a duo formed by guitarist Zachary Garren and drummer Benjamin Rosett. Garren had recently left post-hardcore act Dance Gavin Dance, and early jams with Rosett resulted in a demo that planted the seeds for the angular, quickly shifting sound that the band would refine as the years went on.

–The Stinkfoot Orchestra a 14 Piece Tribute to Frank Zappa– The Stinkfoot Orchestra pulls no punches – delivering 2 sets of Frank’s music via a 14-piece ensemble which incorporates a 6-piece horn section, tuned percussion and 5 vocalists. Oh, and, just to add a little extra garlic, the band is also fronted alternately by 3 of Frank’s most iconic vocalists.

Founded in 2019 by Nick Chargin – a 35-year veteran of the SF Bay Area music scene, the Stinkfoot Orchestra spent the pandemic transcribing the music and honing their craft – finally bringing the fruits of their labor to the stage in September of 2021. SFO is dedicated to presenting Zappa’s compositions with the respect they deserve and the musicianship required to execute properly.

The ensemble has toured up and down the West Coast since the Summer of 2022 – constantly expanding their reach and exposing a whole new generation to the music as it was meant to be heard while leaving even the most critical Zappa fans pining for more.

Given the amount of effort required to perform much of Zappa’s material, one might question what motivates this group of musicians to dedicate themselves to such a huge undertaking. Nick’s response is simple…

“This music is historically important – and I feel it is the responsibility of those who ‘get it’ to help keep it alive and, hopefully, introduce more people to it. On any given night, I realize that we may serve as someone’s first exposure to Frank Zappa – and I don’t take that responsibility lightly.”

“It has been a tremendous amount of work, but I cannot even begin to list the ways in which it has been fulfilling for me as a musician”, Nick continues. “Yes, getting the lines under our fingers has been a challenge, but that merely scratches the surface of what it has taken to bring this project to the stage. Most of the horn charts were transcribed by ear from various (Zappa) ensembles by Dbone, Hassan and me – but I had never created a horn chart in my life – quite a way to cut one’s teeth…” he says. “Never mind the logistics involved with getting such a large group of working musicians together and dealing with all managerial aspects of the band. Yeah – it’s been a full-time job for me for the past few years, but well worth the effort. I’m very proud of what we have put together. Perhaps I’m a bit biased, but I think people are going to be blown away by this project.”

–DUSTBOWL REVIVAL– Dustbowl Revival has always been about pushing the boundaries of what American roots music can be. After celebrating over a decade of sonic adventuring and playing thousands of shows together in ten countries and counting, the group collected a devoted fanbase coast-to-coast. After throwing five of their own virtual Sway-At-Home festivals during the shut-down featuring nearly forty artists, the always evolving group of string and brass players led by founding members Z. Lupetin, Josh Heffernan, Ulf Bjorlin are excited to welcome a new wave of talent to the band, after emerging from a pandemic touring hiatus.

After spending years on the road, selling out hometown shows at LA’s famed Troubadour, headlining festivals and wowing crowds from Denmark to China, Dustbowl Revival never stopped making their joyful, booty-shaking soul songs and cut-to-heart folk-rock ballads that lift up their transcendent live shows.

Even so, with the bands emotional new single “Beside You” and 2020’s ambitious full length Is It You, Is It Me, they wanted to strike into new terrain. As they mined new energetic material from the place where folk and funk music meet, they teamed up with producer Sam Kassirer (Lake Street Dive, Josh Ritter) and engineer Brian Joseph (Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens). The latest album strikes a more personal note than ever before, representing the latest stage in a band that never stops exploring new sounds.

Many of the songs feel like small theater pieces coming to life verse by verse. It’s the yin-yang conversational harmony that is the true specialty of lead songwriter and singer Z. Lupetin, who also doubles as a playwright and recently wrote the music for a Greek tragedy set in Gold Rush era California. While longtime co-lead Liz Beebe has stepped away from the band after a long run, an amazing young talent in Lashon Halley has stepped in to bring new life to the songs, matching Lupetin’s intense vocal range with her own.

With a big brass-and-strings band building around the voices, Is It You, Is It Me isn’t afraid to explore the personal and political tension that the group may have shied away from facing before. The album tackles uneasy topics, often where the political feels personal, especially in the defiant “Get Rid of You,” which was inspired by the student activists who emerged from the tragic Parkland High School shooting in Florida. The ominous driving brass groove of “Enemy,” hones in on a painful generational split between a daughter and her parents who may have voted in a tyrant, and have become strangers to her. This yearning search for common ground pervades the record as a whole.

Where the band really sets on a new course is on lushly cinematic, orchestrated set pieces like “Mirror,” “Runaway” and, most notably, the current fan favorite and live showstopper “Sonic Boom,” about the struggle to reveal who you really are in the hidden, rose-colored world of social media. There’s a new widescreen expansiveness to these songs that wouldn’t be out of place in a packed arena or orchestra hall with a full neon light show. Acting like a nimble rock orchestra, during the recording process, each member played multiple instruments, and the group brought in new musicians on symphonic brass, and local friends to sing as a spur-of-the-moment choir.

If one thing is clear, Is It You, Is It Me represents another large leap forward for Dustbowl Revival, coming after their acclaimed self-titled 2017 album. Produced by Grammy-winner Ted Hutt (Old Crow Medicine Show, Drop Kick Murphy’s), it transitioned the group from a “roots dance party band” that continues to thrive on the festival circuit, to a nuanced ensemble embracing more soulful territory without losing their original fire. That self-titled record was a direct bridge to the newest work, rising number to one on the Amazon Americana chart and featuring a funky favorite “Honey I Love You” where the band joyfully teaming up with blues master Keb Mo’. Their heartache folk number “Got Over”, surprised the band by racking up over seven million streams and counting online. “Beside You” stayed in the Americana charts for months and “Enemy” became a staple on SiriusXM, especially during the 2020 election. To top it off, Billboard Magazine added about that Is It You, Is It Me is “the biggest sonic work of the Venice, Calif.-based troupe’s career.”

Dustbowl Revival’s story started humbly. Nearly thirteen years ago Z. Lupetin, a Chicago native who attended college in Michigan came to L.A. to be a screenwriter, grew disillusioned with his job in advertising, and placed a hopeful ad on Craigslist. He sought to find fellow musicians who shared his roving love of Louis Armstrong, Bob Wills, Old Crow Medicine Show, Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin and the brass bands of New Orleans, but also wanted to write songs like Americana pioneers Wilco, Lucinda Williams and even Bruce Springsteen. There are still players in the group who responded to that initial odd quest. New talent on electric guitar, piano and more are joining in for 2021. “Maybe we don’t know where this journey will take us or how long it will last,” acknowledges Lupetin, “That’s my take on the importance of what we try to do. Music elevates us, lifts us up, makes us change our minds, takes us out of our comfort zones. If just one person can be moved by just one song, that’s enough.”

From thrashing about to live renditions of your favorite stage themes, fingers yearning to the sky in a rock ‘n roll parody of sea anemones seeming to silently plead, “Please, feed us more fretboard pyrotechnics!,” to being locked in stock-still rapture as the infallible maestro of the d-pad, Noah McCarthy, takes on the final boss and risks his video game life under the threat of intense peer scorn (or the reward of night-long glory and a credits score). No matter the outcome, Bit Brigade must play on until the deed is done – which it always is – on the first (and last) try. Once Noah’s NES buzzes on, there’s no turning back.” – Metalhead Mike of The Shizz, summer 2011

–AZUL AZUL– This Bolivian band was born on the streets of Santa Cruz in the 90’s, originally called Grupo AZUL, and mostly played for birthdays, weddings, and local discos until in 1995 when they recorded their first album, “El Corte de la Banana” and changed their name to Azul Azul.

The main force of the group is Fabio Zambrana, who serves as writer, manager and vocalist of the group, and setting their characteristic fun sound, with the band currently including Marcos Antonio Justiniano Lea Plaza, Luis Fernando “Nandy” Justiniano Suárez, Wilson Choque y Martín Espada.

The music is mostly a mixture styles such as pop, cumbias, reggetón, hip-hop and merengue, but with bits of 50’s rock, metal, and baladas mixed in, together with humorous lyrics.

Their biggest album to date is “El Sapo”, winning gold and platinum awards, and featuring the hit “La Bomba”

Shauna Dean Cokeland is a folk punk artist with lyricism beyond her years. From a small beach town in Maryland, her infectious brand of 2000’s nostalgia and a teenage passion for both emo and country music has fostered a sense of community among Gen Z that’s hard to put into words. Though her songs are mostly still unreleased, fans still know every word at her shows. SDC’s debut album ‘Cokeland County’ is on the way ★★

—THE OUTLAW MARIACHI— The OutLaw Mariachi is L.A.’s Premiere Rock Mariachi Band. The band’s beginnings started with a decade-long partnership between the original frontmen and musical director of the well known group Metalachi. In 2020, this duo gathered a group of All-Star caliber musicians and gave birth to The OutLaw Mariachi during the pandemic. After creating a great online presence through podcasts and livestream performances, they quickly became a juggernaut on the music scene once live performances started up again post-pandemic. Since then, The group has become one of the most unique and fastest growing shows out of Los Angeles.

These Charros of Rock blend traditional mariachi sounds with the high powered energy of American and Latin Rock. Their music also incorporates heavy influences from genres such as Hard Rock, Afro-Caribbean, Country, and many danceable rhythms such as Cumbia, Merengue, Zapateado, Mambo, etc….. After applying their unique style to familiar hits from countless artists such as Queen, Pink Floyd, Beastie Boys, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Eagles, Guns N Roses, Rammstein, etc. Audiences find it hard to stay in their seats as it quickly becomes a dance party!

Fronted by singer “GunSkull” Ricky and trumpeter Mateo “Mad Mav” Durán, the show also entertains with a comedic element that keeps the audience compelled from start to finish. The OutLaw Mariachi may not be your typical Mariachi, but it prides itself in being genuine charros and most band members often perform with traditional mariachi ensembles when not on the road. This versatility also allows the band to entertain both American and Latino audiences of all ages and nationalities with musical selections that are guaranteed to please.

Uz Jsme Doma, (pronounced oosh-smeh-dough-ma), are a progressive avantgarde kazz-punk band from Czech Republic. It was active in keeping freedom during the totalitarian system in former Czechoslovakia and due to that, the band had played mostly on illegal level and in constant danger of jail.

The band´s approach to arrangements is unique in the world of rock. They bring the instruments and vocals in different directions within the same scales and keys to create a dense melodic atmosphere. In addition, their rhythms often accent off-beats and half-beats, throwing the listener in unexpected directions. The band is also fond of shifts between time signatures and the insertion of extra beats in the shaping of the mood of the song.

Band tours frequently whole the world – till now they visited 43 different countries, major part of them took USA (more than 700 shows in almost all states), but as well as Japan, New Zealand, Israel, France, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, etc etc.

The band has, to date, released eight proper studio albums, two live albums, several DVD’s a many compilations all over the world. They collaborate to theatre, film or occasionally they play with symphonic orchestra.

They collaborated very closely to the world famous band The Residents on their Freak show and later they released album Moravian Meeting, where UJD and Randy, the singer of The Residents, perform together.

Artist Martin Velisek is the non-playing and mostly non/travelling UJD member. His unique, absurd cartoon style, replete with alarming flourishes of realism, gruesomeness and beauty, gives UJD records their distinct look.

FREE SALAMANDER EXHIBIT

Current research indicates that within 2 years of use, a pillow’s weight increases by 30% due to the accumulation of dead skin cells, dust mites, and their droppings. In a similar fashion, Free Salamander Exhibit has gradually augmented its own weight through an accumulation of musical and literary droppings, distilled these into creative impulses- -impulses committed to memory and subsequently forgotten.

Originally called the Rock Springs Six, Free Salamander Exhibit makes no bones about being influenced by the early work of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. “Yeah, we all have that first record,” they mutter nonchalantly. Their new name is taken from the Sleepytime Gorilla Press’s 1916 leaflet distributed by Pentecostal snake-handler George Went Hensley of Tennessee, wherein the gospel dictum “They shall take up serpents and salamanders” was treated to more or less literal interpretation. “Yeah, we all handle them, salamanders that is,” they confess. Yes, they have renounced their snake handling ways in favor of the modern hair-shirt, i.e. the burlap gown. Certainly their outfits are uncomfortable and make playing difficult, especially for the non-rock instruments they sometimes employ, but what price beauty?

It seems the past is something this band of burlap brothers would rather put to rest. Free Salamander Exhibit gained some notoriety in the early 2000s by impersonating the members of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, even going so far as insinuating themselves into the SGM members’ households. When it was announced in 2010 that SGM had been “subsumed” into the very bodies of Free Salamander Exhibit, the music press understood this to figuratively refer to a simple regrouping. Boy, were they wrong.

Currently based in Oakland, CA, Free Salamander Exhibit continues to shed its dead skin cells, casting off an accumulated detritus of metal, prog-rock, and art-rock influences. Nils, Dan, Michael, David, and Drew (at least these are the names they claim) meet regularly in an underground concrete shelter. Here they sit at an oval-shaped table in a spirit of constructive argumentation, poring over the nature of memory and the illusory promise of free will. Eventually they emerge, ready again to absorb the environmental stimuli that nourish their world-view. Through this circular process of absorption and molting, Free Salamander Exhibit hopes to augment the mass of your own pillow as well.

Shed some skin with Free Salamander Exhibit in your town soon

—JUNIPER HONEY—Juniper Honey is an indie-rock band out of California. Original members Jake Hesse (lead vocals/guitar) and Donovan Hess (drums) began their journey together in 2020. In the later months of 2022, Jake and Don picked up guitarist Cason LeSueur and bassist Josh West to officially form Juniper Honey. With a few homemade numbers already out, the group immediately hit the studio and added four fresh sounding singles to their catalog. Following their releases in 2023, the guys stuffed into a minivan and took to the road to promote their new sound. The band recently returned to the studio to record a soon to be released full length album before returning to the road.

—THE BAND FEEL—A band of artists with the mindset of creating and playing music with the passion and focus that once was, and now is. Sounds and feel of the past made present once again. This group nods at the blues, jazz, and rock & roll roots of St. Louis, stirs in the experimental revolution of the 1960s, and incorporates the vast array of sounds introduced by British hard rock and Laurel Canyon that defined the sound of the 70s – intertwining to become what is now known as The Band Feel.

The band has been making a name for themselves opening for Cheap Trick, 38 Special, Rival Sons, and John Waite, and they’re excited to be back on the road supporting their new single “Find A Love.”

–CONNIE BRANNOCK & LITTLE HOUSE OF FUNK– Known for saucy lyrics and high caliber performances, Connie was an entertainer out of the gate. Serious sorties began in high school when her band Luke performed throughout the mid-Atlantic—from Philly to Virginia Beach, to the Princeton Club and William & Mary College. She trekked west in the late 70’s, crooning with the Bill Brown Band in Salt Lake City and San Francisco. Back in Utah, she formed another hot tamale group, Connie and the Rhythm Method with David Jette. In demand, they toured Boise, Moab, Missoula, and the Hollywood Palace in Los Angeles.

In 1986 Connie Brannock won the Stroh’s Superstar Talent Search and was signed by MCA Records. Caleb Ruffin, with Sounds of Success (S.O.S.), recruited her to move to Atlanta and work on a single.

Instead, she up and joined the service just before her 35th birthday.

Connie served admirably for 21 years and deployed twice in Operation Iraqi Freedom. A compelling leader, she has been a mentor to many young men and women and believes that leadership is an act of love.

Connie continues to pay tribute to the legendary artists who shaped her sounds throughout her career: Sly and the Family Stone, Laura Nyro, Carole King, Jeff Lorber and Patrice Rushen.
