Out To Lunch: Colin McIlrath Quintet
($15-$25 tickets | 7pm & 9pm sets) Bassist Colin McIlrath makes his band leading debut at the Century Room celebrating one of the seminal avant garde jazz albums: Eric Dolphy’s 1964 Blue Note recording “Out To Lunch.” The original album featured Eric Dolphy playing
saxophone, flute and bass clarinet, accompanied by Bobby Hutcherson on vibraphone, Freddy Hubbard on trumpet, Richard Davis on bass and the young Tony Williams on drums and was called a “masterpiece” by the Penguin Guide to Jazz. McIlrath will recreate this lineup with local musicians to perform tracks from the album like “Hat and Beard” and “Straight Up and Down” plus other songs associated with Eric Dolphy from Andrew Hill’s “Point of Departure” album. Will be an exciting night of avant garde, modern jazz!
