Songwriter Saloon
Club Congress presents the first monthly Songwriter Saloon in the Century Room! Featuring Jeb Lipson, Julio Lopez, Roux, and Tim Leavy.
**Jeb Lipson**
Everything you’ve ever heard and or made up about this cantankerous old son of a gun is probably true!
Lipson grew up on the on the intricately smooth sounds of Motown in Detroit, MI. The catchy lyrics and vibrant vocals hooked into him as a young child and by age 6, he knew he wanted to write songs. When Lipson moved to Tucson, AZ for college, he was exposed to outlaw country through the likes of Waylon and Willie. Rounding out the musical journey of his early life, when Jeb moved to LA, he began writing R&B songs.
In his current artistic state, Lipson incorporates these influences into a unique, mellow Americana reminiscent of early folk-rock artists of the 70s.
**Julio Lopez**
Julio Lopez (they/them) is a singer, composer, and guitarist interested in repertoire (cherished knowledge), ornaments, and emptiness. They write pieces, re-arrange early- and mid-20th century popular songs, and sing ballads — all around themes of love, memory, and grief.
**Roux**
There are two main themes as to why I have the name I do: 1. I’m Cajun born and raised and the first thing you make when you’re cooking a gumbo is the ROUX, and 2. to remind myself to stick to my ROUXTS and never forget where I came from. Part of my identity is soul music. For as long as I can remember I’ve been writing. I grew up in a smaller town on the bayou in Louisiana and jazz music has always captivated my heart, and I’m very grateful to have been able to be born in the heart of such a huge amount of culture. I started singing at a very young age and found myself gravitating toward instruments once I started taking music more seriously. I wound up teaching myself the piano, guitar, and ukulele, and by the time I knew it I was writing acoustic music! I’m currently based in Tucson, AZ, but I’ve lived in Mississippi, Georgia, and San Francisco, CA. Lyrical content is truly one of the most important things I take into account as I write, and also as a listener. I hope you find that my music resonates with your soul and delivers the message I intend to, and that in all things you do, you do them with an open heart, kindness, and love.????
