Groovus Trio | In Honor of Songwriters
($20-$30 tickets + DICE fees | 6:30pm & 8pm sets) Drummer Danny Coots, bassist Steve Pikal and pianist Brian Hollad form the trio Groovusl, playing classic swing and early jazz mixed with blues and boogie woogie.
“Exciting, exhilarating, and exhausting!” is probably the best (and most alliterative) way to describe this mighty trio. It began with Danny Coots and Brian Holland getting together after performing individually on the Jazz and Ragtime circuits honing their skills on drums and piano, respectively. Since joining forces, they’ve been on a mission to introduce audiences all over the world to their style of music and fun. With a delightful mix of jazz, blues, stride, boogie, pop, and ragtime, Holland & Coots have created something for every taste. Then the duo added bassist Steve Pikal and created Groovus, which made their performances even more fun than before – and, yes, it’s possible!
“In Honor of Songwriters”
The trio will focus on the works of past songwriters Irving Berlin, Fats Waller, Nacio Brown, Jelly Roll Morton, Eubie Blake, Scott Joplin, Cole Porter and George Gershwin. And also touch on living composers Abdullah Ibrahim, Chris Walters, Tom Brier and Brian Holland.
