Tucson Modern Jazz Quartet: The Music of Herbie Hancock

The Tucson Modern Jazz Quartet presents an evening dedicated to the music of pianist Herbie Hancock. Hancock is one of those visionary musicians who has defined and re-defined genres across his lengthy career. From his time in the Miles Davis Quintet, to pioneering electro-funk fusion to modern incarnations that continue to push the boundaries of jazz, Hancock’s playing and writing has been imaginative, virtuosic and lyrical. The Tucson Modern Jazz Quartet (Trey Bryant, Patrick Morris, Zach White, Keaton Wilson) will focus on a deep catalogue that spans Hancock’s career, from modern interpretations of his compositions that have become part of the jazz lexicon, to deeper cuts from the psychedlic electro era, as well as tunes from the recent past that highlight Hancock’s arranging and harmonic ingenuity.
