Art In The Lobby: Patricia Katchur & Joni Wallace
Exhibition Duration: Sept 30nd – November 11th
Opening Reception: 6-8 p.m. on Friday October 2
The Hotel Congress Lobby Gallery is excited to host local artists Patricia Katchur and Joni Wallace. She will be showcasing his stunning painting series “Beautiful Dark”. Visual artist Patricia and poet Joni collaborate in this installation of mixed media and poetry off the page to illuminate the umbral. Katchur’s multi-media pieces reflecting shadows and peephole visions of the other-worldly combine with Wallace’s fragmented, sonic, overheard narratives (told by disembodied voices, cadavers, and crepuscular creatures) to create a richly imagistic architecture of the noir.
Patricia Katchur’s career has been a blend of art, commerce and collaborations. She has an extensive photographic background which includes a BFA in Fine Art Photography, owning a B & W Lab in New York City and Co-Founding a series of Historic and Alternative Photographic Process Workshops. Ms. Katchur currently lives in Tucson, Arizona and is the Proprietress of Yikes Toys!
Joni Wallace’s most recent poetry collection, Kingdom Come Radio Show, was a finalist for the Colorado Prize, the Besmilr Brigham Prize, AROHO’s To the Lighthouse Award, and The Washington Prize and is forthcoming from Barrow Street in 2016. She is also the author of Blinking Ephemeral Valentine (Levis Prize), Four Way Books, 2011, and Redshift, Kore Press, 2016. Her poems and sound pieces most recently appear in Boston Review, Sonora Review, Gulf Coast, Connotations Press, Booth 9, Conduit, The Volta, West Branch Wired, textsound.org, and on the website for the Poetry Society of America.
