**Tucson Jazz Institute**

The TJI Elllington Big Band has established itself as one of the leading high school jazz groups in the country, earning recognition from Downbeat Magazine and winning the #1 positions in national competitions such as the Jazz at Lincoln Center Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival in NYC, The Next Generation Jazz Festival in Monterey CA, and the Fullerton Jazz Festival in Fullerton CA. TJI’s big band program centers around classic jazz big band repertoire from great bands like the Duke Ellington Orchestra, the Count Basie Band, and the Buddy Rich Band, to name a few. Students develop skills in sight reading, jazz phrasing, improvising, leadership, teamwork, and critical thinking while digesting music of some of America’s greatest composers and arrangers. The big bands annually submit audition tapes to several of the most competitive jazz festivals in the US, regularly earning 1st place awards.

**Century Room Jazz Orchestra**

Inspired by the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the 17-piece CRJO performs classic big band repertoire every Monday night at the Century Room starting at 7pm. Advanced reserved tickets are available for the front listening area, while the rest of the room will be open to the general public. Look forward to seeing a rotating cast of Tucson’s finest musicians crowded onto The Century Room stage.
