Hot Club of Tucson feat. Howard Alden Celebrate Django Reinhardt & Stéphane Grappelli

($15-$25 tickets | 7pm & 9pm sets) Tucson’s premiere Gypsy Jazz trio, the Hot Club of Tucson, has performed at the Hotel Congress every Sunday morning for over 15 years. Made up of Matt Mitchell, Evan Dain and violinist Nick Coventry (of the Black Market Trust), Tucson’s Hot Club keeps Jazz Manouche alive and well in the Old Pueblo.

For their Century Room debut, the trio is being joined by Django expert Howard Alden. In 1999, Alden was recruited to provide the soundtrack to Woody Allen’s “Sweet & Lowdown,” which followed a fictional Django style guitarist played by Sean Penn. For the film, Alden actually taught Penn how to play guitar for his onscreen performances! Won’t want to miss the epic guitar battles between Matt and Howard.
