Misha Olarrea grew up surrounded by music, with his grandmother being a professional pianist. He picked up the saxophone at age 10, and began playing jazz a year later. In high school, he was active with several members of the jazz community in Tucson, including Brice Winston, Angelo Versace, Pete Swan, Glendon Gross, Morani Sanders and Lamont Arthur. After graduating high school, Misha studied at the University of Kansas where he worked with several pillars of the jazz scene such as Matt Otto, Dan Gailey, Jeff Coffin, Ryan Keberle, Emmet Cohen and Renee Rosnes.
After taking a several year hiatus from music after his graduation, Misha is slowly becoming an active member of the Tucson jazz scene once again.
