**Marcos Varela**

Marcos Varela is an equally skilled doubler at both acoustic and electric bass and is among the most highly respected bassists/musicians in the American and International Jazz music scene. His talents have also earned him many awards (YoungArts, Creative Capital, Jazz Road) and accolades as a musician, composer, producer, band leader, and educator.

He has toured and recorded with jazz luminaries like Geri Allen, Leslie Odom Jr., and the Mingus Big Band. His debut album, “San Ygnacio,” earned critical acclaim, with Jazziz Magazine calling it one of the top releases of 2016 and NPR Music naming it a “Top Debut.” Legendary bassist Ron Carter says of Varela that his “Tone, Choice of Notes and Compositions will place his playing and name on the list of bassists to be heard.”

Varela, also an accomplished composer for Domenica Scorsese’s film “Roots in Water,” teaches at the New School and Montclair State University. He is endorsed by NS Design, Aguilar Amplification, Kolstein, D’Addario strings, Fishman, Mono Creators, and Fodera.
