The Hotel Congress has been a travel destination for 100 years (minus the few years taken to rebuild after the fire of 1934–you know, the whole Dillinger thing?), and for the past two months, we have had locks on our doors for the first time ever. The desire to open our doors again is immense, but we want to do so thoughtfully.
Hotel Congress and Maynards Market and Kitchen are always on the cutting edge of hospitality efforts in this community, but reopening right now at the height of this pandemic is not the vision we have for our future. We have made a decision as a company not to return to normal dine-in operations at this time. We feel it is just too soon. The safety of our staff is the most critical aspect of this decision.
We have begun the process of hiring staff back while taking every precaution as advised by local and federal health organizations. We are utilizing this additional time to implement new training and procedures to ensure the safety of our staff and guests.
One of the many changes we are focused on is exclusive outdoor seating for both restaurants. We have heard from many of our customers, and the resounding response we have received is the desire to dine outdoors. We have abundant outdoor space at both restaurants and plan to create a thoughtful alternative to dining in.
Maynards Market & Kitchen has been closed since March, but we have been working behind the scenes to reestablish our cachet as the top wine locale in Downtown Tucson. We are exploring ways to start our summer wine club program with virtual tastings and drive-through curbside wine pickup. We are also transitioning our online market from the Cup Cafe over to Maynards Market. Our focus is to create a beautifully crafted online market space that brings the sophisticated and locally sourced food you expect when dining at Maynards to your home.
Our entire business is dedicated to offering exceptional service to “every guest, every time.” For now, we continue that mission by offering to-go food, curbside delivery, an essential goods online market, to-go cocktails, and packaged liquor while establishing those concepts and a fresh perspective at Maynards Market & Kitchen.
We are looking forward to opening up once again, and when we do, it will be designed to keep our guests’ and our staff’s safety a top priority.
