(Granada Hills, CA) – Five-piece alternative band hailing from Granada Hills, CA. The five create an atmosphere that is overwhelming with emotion.

“Mexican Slum Rats are masters at composing songs one can feel to their core, balancing tranquility with chaos — a perfect mixture that is only heightened by their expressive instrumentals. Lead vocalist Kevin Villalba has an unforgettable and profound pitch that lingers to correctly portray the sense of vulnerability people often attempt to conceal, humanizing their music and creating an outlet for others to turn to. Accompanying Villalba’s vehement displays are the distinct sounds of a strumming guitar, making for a complete and ideal performance.” – Catherine Quinones, Daily Trojan

For over a century, the Hotel Congress has stood at the heart of Tucson, a living witness to the city’s history—and to those who refuse to leave it behind. Built in 1919, the hotel was designed for travelers stepping off the Southern Pacific line, with guest rooms, a café, a beauty shop, a barber, and the now-famous Tap Room bar. Yet beneath the grandeur of its architecture lies something far older: the land itself has been continuously inhabited for thousands of years, making Tucson one of North America’s oldest, and most haunted, living communities.

On this 30-minute walking tour, you’ll be let in on the hotel’s best-kept secrets. Meet the lace-shrouded lady of the staircase, drifting through the lobby trailing the faint scent of roses; the Victorian Gentleman in Room 214, quietly surveying the plaza in seersucker and top hat; the Locksmith’s Apprentice, tinkering at unseen locks; Vince, the butter-knife handyman, still tending to his work decades after his passing; and the Lady in White, whose presence has startled more than a few male guests. You’ll even hear the story of infamous bank robber John Dillinger, who passed through Hotel Congress in 1934 before a fire exposed his gang’s presence and led to his capture—without a single shot fired.

The tour wraps up in the rarely seen séance room, a space of quiet reflection, lingering echoes, and centuries of footsteps—perfect for anyone curious enough to step just a little closer to the unexplained. It’s more than a ghost tour; it’s a backstage pass to a living portrait of Hotel Congress, where history, humanity, and spirits mingle in plain sight.

Please note: the elevator was destroyed in the famous 1934 fire—guests must climb one flight of stairs to reach the haunted rooms.

($25-$35 + DICE fees | 6:30pm & 8:30pm sets) Welcome back the powerful Miki Yamanaka and her NYC Trio to the Century Room for their annual appearance! They are celebrating the release of her newest album “Chance” on Cellar Records.

Miki Yamanaka (piano) Pablo Menares (bass) Jimmy Macbride (drums)

Japanese-born pianist Miki Yamanaka has called New York City home since 2012 and in the past decade has wasted no time establishing herself as one of the leading personalities of her generation on the piano and beyond. Critics laud her “light, expressive touch and solidly crafted, mainstream approach” – Mike Jurkovic (All About Jazz), while audiences delight in not only her playing, but her vibrant personality as well. Yamanaka has gained international recognition from her albums as a leader; her most recent and most celebrated release, “Chance” (Cellar Music), features her NYC rhythm section, Tyrone Allen and Jimmy Macbride. Additionally, Miki has emerged as a leader of the “New York Scene” via her notable residencies at mainstay West Village sister clubs Smalls and Mezzrow. During the pandemic, she developed a successful in-home live-streaming weekly concert series cleverly titled “Miki’s Mood” where she features a veritable who’s who of NYC talent (including her husband and frequent collaborator – drummer Jimmy Macbride). The series showcases her vast knowledge of Jazz standards and tunes, often featuring themed offerings of various composers from both the Great American Songbook as well as iconic Jazz composers.

As a sideman, Yamanaka has worked with Jazz luminaries such as alto saxophonist Antonio Hart who posits “Miki will be recognized as one of the most exceptional artists of her generation, as she is already one of the most talented and dedicated musicians from Japan.” Other notable bands she currently works in include the Harish Raghavan Quintet and The Mingus Bigband. One of her most respected mentors on piano and organ (Yamanaka also performs on organ frequently), Larry Goldings, once mused, “If only I could have Miki Yamanaka comp behind me!” – a compliment of the highest order from one master pianist to another. She has a myriad of glowing reviews from her recorded work and the iconic Downbeat Jazz magazine has repeatedly awarded her albums high marks.

On top of her exciting work as a bandleader in New York and abroad, Miki can often be found out and about most nights, where her infectious smile and gregarious nature engender fast friends in every audience she encounters. She has many hobbies, including cooking, knitting, and perhaps most visibly, her penchant for wearing her vast collection of kimonos on her gigs, proudly representing her heritage and culture night after night as she dazzles audiences around the world.

—THE OUTLAW MARIACHI— The OutLaw Mariachi is L.A.’s Premiere Rock Mariachi Band. The band’s beginnings started with a decade-long partnership between the original frontmen and musical director of the well known group Metalachi. In 2020, this duo gathered a group of All-Star caliber musicians and gave birth to The OutLaw Mariachi during the pandemic. After creating a great online presence through podcasts and livestream performances, they quickly became a juggernaut on the music scene once live performances started up again post-pandemic. Since then, The group has become one of the most unique and fastest growing shows out of Los Angeles.

These Charros of Rock blend traditional mariachi sounds with the high powered energy of American and Latin Rock. Their music also incorporates heavy influences from genres such as Hard Rock, Afro-Caribbean, Country, and many danceable rhythms such as Cumbia, Merengue, Zapateado, Mambo, etc….. After applying their unique style to familiar hits from countless artists such as Queen, Pink Floyd, Beastie Boys, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Eagles, Guns N Roses, Rammstein, etc. Audiences find it hard to stay in their seats as it quickly becomes a dance party!

Fronted by singer “GunSkull” Ricky and trumpeter Mateo “Mad Mav” Durán, the show also entertains with a comedic element that keeps the audience compelled from start to finish. The OutLaw Mariachi may not be your typical Mariachi, but it prides itself in being genuine charros and most band members often perform with traditional mariachi ensembles when not on the road. This versatility also allows the band to entertain both American and Latino audiences of all ages and nationalities with musical selections that are guaranteed to please.

Ruthie Foster’s musical journey is as eclectic and vibrant as her soulful voice. Born into a family steeped in gospel tradition, Ruthie’s earliest influences were the voices of her mother, grandmother, and the gospel singers she grew up listening to — artists like the Gospel Keynotes and the Blind Boys of Alabama. However, her path to becoming a solo artist wasn’t a straightforward one. Despite a deep love for music, Ruthie initially shied away from the spotlight, preferring to play guitar, piano, and write songs for others.
