ISAIAH COLLIER
Twenty-six-year-old Isaiah Collier is a musical virtuoso in the truest sense of the phrase. He began playing saxophone at age 11, and his intuitive proficiency earned him attention early on. Ever since, his band Isaiah Collier and The Chosen Few has been turning ears.
In February 2025 he was featured on NPR’s “Jazz Night In America”. The Chicago Tribune named him Jazz Artists of the Year for 2024. His recording The Almighty (Division 81 Records, 2024) was selected as one of the Top Ten Jazz Recordings of 2024 by The New York Times. He was featured in The New York Times Fall Arts Preview in September 2024. Downbeat Magazine selected him as one of 25 for the future in their 90th Anniversary issue in July 2024. He won the Rising Star Award in Downbeat Magazine’s critics poll for Tenor Saxophone (2023), and Soprano Saxophone (2024), and has been named a Steve Jobs Fellow.

Ken Wagner is a multi-instrumentalist and educator. He has performed alongside artists such as Melissa Aldana, Lewis Nash, Wycliffe Gordon, Sean Jones, Jimmy Greene, and many others. He has worked extensively as a freelance musician, performing in a variety of styles, including jazz, americana, country, bluegrass, and ambient music.
Nate Gilbreath is a versatile trombone player and composer that aims to break the sonic mold of his instrument. Primarily a student of the jazz tradition, Gilbreath aims to incorporate sounds from the classical, R&B, and fusion styles into his playing and writing. Gilbreath currently plays, studies and gigs around the San Francisco Bay area and has been mentored by Joshua Redman and Andre Hayward, while receiving praise from legendary trumpet players Ambrose Akinmusire and Marcus Printup.
Max Holmberg is a Seattle-based drummer, bandleader, and educator who began playing drums at age two and studied at Berklee College of Music. He performs with many groups like Boss Tenors and the Danny Kolke Trio, and is known as one of the most sought-after drum teachers in the Pacific Northwest. Max has toured internationally, collaborated with prominent musicians, and been a featured guest artist at several universities, while also running jam sessions and occasionally performing in Broadway shows.
Roman Goron is a 19-year-old French-Filipino-American Jazz Pianist and Composer based in Seattle, WA. Through the piano, Roman aims to bridge his passions for sound, visual imagery and storytelling. Focused on playing harmonically rich acoustic jazz, Roman leads his own trio, the Roman Goron Trio, with whom he performs regularly. He also arranges and composes original material.
George Fulton is a saxophonist from Seattle, Washington. He currently attends Berklee College of Music in Boston where he has studied with musical luminaries George Garzone, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Walter Smith III. He has a deep reverence for the traditions of Jazz and world music, and loves good art.

Born and raised in the American Southwest, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Eliana Joy offers an expressively emotional sensitivity to audiences and collaborators alike. Following her graduation from Arizona State University, Eliana spent a season in the Santa Fe Opera’s media department. She then moved to Brooklyn and swiftly established herself in the jazz scene, combining her eclectic influences to explore The Great American Songbook as a medium of storytelling and social connection. As a member of the Women in Jazz Organization’s Mentors Program, she studied with New York Voices member Lauren Kinhan. She has played across the country in iconic venues like Ornithology and Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn, NY, The Mine Shaft Tavern in Madrid, NM, and The Century Room in Tucson, AZ. Jerry Joseph is a musician who lives in Portland Oregon, but he’s often gone. He’s been inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame but is still rather obscure to a lot of people. He plays well over 150 shows a year in the usual places. Across America. Sometimes in Europe, Mexico, and Central America. Then there’s these other places he plays—Lebanon, Israel, Kurdish Iraq, India, and Afghanistan. All over the Middle East, often in war zones and refugee camps.
In addition to his touring, Jerry has set up a non-profit called Nomad Music Foundation that acts as a sort of School of Rock for displaced teenagers in areas of conflict. So far, he has taken guitars and taught lessons in camps in Kabul, Afghanistan, and Sulaymaniyah and Dahuk, both in Kurdish Iraq. These life-changing missions have been written up in Rolling Stone, Relix, and PBS News Hour.
Oh yeah, and he’s really fucking great.
A triple threat—someone who works at the highest levels as a songwriter, singer, and player. Jason Isbell, who kinda personifies such, recently tweeted about triple threats and listed Jerry Joseph (along with Richard Thompson and St. Vincent) among the greatest examples of that phenomenon.
Most likely, if you know who Jerry is, you agree, but there’s also a big chance that you don’t. His talent, drive, work ethic, amazing body of work, and flat out badass-ness make him one of the most underrated and tragically overlooked artists alive today. He deserves better, and I’m hoping to help shine a light on who and what Jerry Joseph is and why you should listen to what he’s doing and saying.
First off, there’s the body of work. Jerry Joseph has been playing shows and making records since the 80s, first in a band called Little Women that at one point looked destined to be huge, but this is a crazy business and sometimes things just don’t go as planned. By the 90s Jerry was struggling with addiction while also creating the beginnings of a vast body of work as a solo artist and burning up the road backed by a mighty band called The Jackmormons. They built a considerable following in the great Northwest. Many of Jerry’s songs were recorded by the band Widespread Panic, and there are many people who know of Jerry through that connection. Later, after getting clean, Jerry toured and made some albums as part of Stockholm Syndrome, a sort of supergroup he formed with Panic bassist David Schools, who himself is an incredible musician. Much of Jerry’s following in the so-called jam band circles is through his affiliation with these bands.
Musical taste is a funny thing. People who are into one or another genre of music often don’t pay much attention to musicians who fall outside of those forms. The age of streaming and the internet have broadened things considerably, but there is still a form of segregation that occurs across various boundaries, often accompanied by derision for stylistic forms outside certain circles. I have spent much of my life rebelling against this way of listening, while sometimes still being as guilty as anyone about this exact thing. I’ve always been drawn to songwriters and the writerly aspects of music, and with some glaring exceptions, there has always been a disconnect between the so-called jam music scene and the so-called singer/songwriter genre. The fact that Jerry is a writer’s writer who has been mostly known in “jammy” circles has always made him somewhat an anomaly.
I have also always been partial to punk rock, yet there has always been a wall separating punk bands from jam bands, even though Black Flag, The National, Sonic Youth, and many of the legendary punk bands through the years have always proclaimed themselves massive Grateful Dead fans. I know Jerry Joseph to be a die-hard fan of all kinds of music across many genres, and there have been seeds of those many genres in most of his many records. Underneath it all, to me, he’s always been a punk rocker at the core.
Jerry, to me is a cult figure who could, in some alternate reality, have easily been one of the biggest stars in the world. One of the greatest live performers I have ever seen and long one of my favorite songwriters. I can’t hear the chorus of San Acacia without picturing Jerry singing it in front of 100,000 screaming fans, in a soccer stadium in Brazil. In the pouring rain. With everyone singing along.

Katie Haverly is a singer-songwriter “alt-rock polymath” who creates a joyous mesh of soulful pop, jazz, folk, and rock in her passionate live performances. Led by Maynards’ new Executive Chef, Roderick LeDesma, this thoughtfully crafted menu highlights the rich bounty of the Sonoran Desert, blending traditional ingredients with modern, innovative techniques. Each course is expertly paired with La Gritona Reposado Tequila—a distinguished, female- and family-owned distillery led by Melly Barajas—featuring both neat pours and artful cocktails that enhance the flavors of each dish.

Bernstein is one of the most respected and accomplished jazz guitarists of his generation. With a career spanning over three decades, Bernstein has established himself as a prominent voice in both the traditional and modern jazz scenes. Known for his warm, lyrical tone and impeccable technique, he has played alongside some of the greatest musicians in jazz.

Peter Bernstein was born in New York City in 1967. He has been playing and recording since 1990 when he first appeared on recordings with Lou Donaldson and the organ trio of Larry Goldings and Bill Stewart, a group still touring and recording today. Peter played in Lou Donaldson’s group for 10 years as well as performing and recording with Joshua Redman’s group 1995-97. Other associations and collaborations include Jimmy Cobb, Dr. Lonnie Smith, David Fathead Newman, Brad Mehldau, Etta Jones, Melvin Rhyne, Diana Krall, Bobby Hutcherson, Lee Konitz, Nicholas Payton, George Coleman, and Sonny Rollins. Peter has played on festival, concert, and club stages all over the world since the early 90’s. He has been a regular performer at the world famous Village Vanguard for over two decades
He has appeared on over 300 recordings with these musicians and many of his contemporaries as well as 14 records under his own name. These recordings have featured many of his own compositions and musicians such as Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride, Greg Hutchinson, Jimmy Cobb, Bill Stewart, Larry Grenadier, Gerald Clayton, Sullivan Fortner, Peter Washington, Doug Weiss, and Joe Farnsworth among others. His latest recording on the Smoke Sessions label is “Better Angels”, and features Brad Mehldau, Vicente Archer, and Al Foster.

—YOUTH LAGOON—Youth Lagoon, the alias of Idaho-based producer and composer Trevor Powers, returns with a new single/video, “My Beautiful Girl.” Much like entering a dream, Powers’ worlds often feel like oddly familiar fragments of a childhood memory. “Songwriting just feels like receiving messages from a portal and transcribing them,” says Powers. “Some nights I’ll wake up at 3 am and words feel like they’re bludgeoning my skull with a baseball bat. Most times, I don’t even know what they mean. I don’t think I’m supposed to. It’s only my job to listen, be constant, and write them down. And if I’m not a faithful steward of that job, those words will find someone else who is.”
