“Hot Jazz Wednesdays” take you back to the roots of jazz with music from the 1920s and ’30s. Every 1st, 3rd & 5th Wednesday, Marco & The Polos perform music from New Orleans. 2nd and 4th Wednesdays are reserved for the Hot Club of Tucson, which performs French Jazz Manouche in the style of Django Reinhardt & Stéphane Grappelli.

The Thursday night Soul Jazz Sessions offer a classy and relaxing atmosphere spotlighting the Viscount Legend Soul organ with Vortex rotating speaker designed by Joey DeFrancesco, a modern recreation of the legendary Hammond B3 organ/Leslie combo made famous by the great jazz, blues, and gospel organists of yesteryear like Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Larry Young, Brother Jack McDuff & Dr. Lonnie Smith. Their music is influenced by Latin, fusion, and contemporary jazz, as well as R&B, funk, folk, and traditional Native American sounds and spirituality. Members of the band have been nominated for Grammy awards and have received Native American Music Awards.

($20-$30 tickets + DICE fees | 6:30pm & 8:30pm shows) Saxophonist/flautist Brice Winston and Katherine Byrnes team up to present the music from Chick Corea’s classic “Return To Forever” band! The night will focus on RTF’s first two albums that featured Brazilian vocalist Flora Purim, 1972’s “Return To Forever” and 1973’s “Light As A Feather.” Coming off of playing the Fender Rhodes piano in Miles Davis’ electric band, Chick Corea went on to create two of the most iconic jazz fusion albums of the 1970s with his Return To Forever Band, blending Brazilain Jazz, Spanish Flamenco and Rock and Roll. The original band featured Flora Purim on vocals, Airto Moreira on drums and percussion, Joe Farrell on saxophone and flute, Stanley Clarke on bass, and of course Chick on the Fender Rhodes electric piano.

For this special show, Winston will play sax and flute with Byrnes tackling Purim’s airy vocals. Joining them are Angelo Versace on Fender Rhodes, Colin McIlrath on electric bass and Arthur Vint on drums.

This show will feature Grown Folk’s core trio of musicians: TroyCov on drums, Chris Peña on keys and Joshua ‘The Mad Scientist’ Sailor on bass plus Gospel Choir.

The Gospel Music Workshop of America is a non-profit, international, interdenominational, unbiased, and voluntary association of gospel singers and musicians. It also includes ministers, educators, business professionals and higher education partnerships. These partnerships provide continuing education, collaboration and communication of ideas for the advancement of sacred and gospel music. The Tucson Chapter prominently features Frances Clary “LaLa” Covington who has been a member of the Tucson gospel community since the 80s.

($5-$10 + DICE fees | 6:30pm-9:30pm) Come sit in with multi-instrumentalist Max Goldschmid and the Century Room house band! Band opens up with a short set followed by an instrumental jam until 9:30pm. Musicians who sit in get in free!

($15-$25 tickets + DICE fees | 6:30pm & 8pm sets) Inspired by the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the 17-piece Century Jazz Orchestra performs every Monday night at the Century Room starting at 6:30pm. Expect music from the Count Basie Orchestra, Duke Ellington Orchestra, the Thad Jones/Mel Louis Jazz Orchestra, plus classics from Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw and much more! An intergenerational ensemble, the CJO fosters community with students, teachers and professionals performing alongside each other and is supported by the Sonora Arts & Music Initiative 501(c)3. Come relive the magic of the big band era every Monday as the CJO keeps the music alive and thriving in the 21st Century!
